Modern busy life can leave us worn out. Ancient Somatic Practices can restore harmony within your mind, body and soul.
I’m Hannah and I founded Meraki Wellbeing in 2023. My first career was more what was “expected” of me. I entered Medical School in 1993, starting work in the NHS in 1998. I retired from NHS General Practice in 2025 due to ill health. A combination of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and an early surgical menopause at 41 years old took it’s toll on my own wellbeing to the point where I made the difficult decision to retire. Fortunately, by this point, I’d already birthed Meraki Wellbeing and she was taking baby steps into the word of holistic wellbeing. I know that Meraki Wellbeing is exactly where I’m meant to be and I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to be doing. Having a different type of conversations with people who want to support their wellbeing in a way that works for them.
Ancient and Modern Medicine have a place in supporting health and wellbeing. Modern medicine is typically designed around the biomedical model of illness where there’s a “fault” with the body that can be fixed by a pill or a procedure. But our health and wellbeing is far more complex and nuanced that this. Meraki Wellbeing is here to support you in experiencing Ancient practices and in having conversations about how you may want to make different life-style choices to support your wellbeing.

My personal relationship with these ancient practices started in 2000 when I first stepped into a yoga space. I was living abroad in Australia for 12 months and found a very special place built and run by a lady from Trinidad. I learned about movement and breath, relaxation and meditation and taking time for myself. Just listening to her melodic voice made me feel better.
I came back to the UK and was thrown back into a brutal work pattern and the nomadic existence of an NHS Junior Doctor – moving jobs and often counties every 6 months.
Yoga didn’t feature in my life.
Shift work and studying for exams meant that instead of breath-work and movement I used, like so many of us, energy drinks to keep me going and alcohol to help me sleep and sometimes sex as a proxy for actual intimacy. Life ticked over this way for best part of a decade and from a distance, life was OK.
I reconnected with yoga 10 years later when I decided I needed to make different choices. I started to walk in nature, go to hot yoga (very fashionable at the time) and eat better. I shed a lot of extra weight and whilst some of this has crept back on, I am still passionate about a connection with nature and movement being my medicine of choice.
I now practice yoga and over the last few years, I’ve deepened my own personal meditation and mindfulness habit . I found acupuncture really helpful in 2015 when I had a terrible viral illness that led to my CFS. I’ve had reflexology and acupuncture and found them all extremely beneficial. I’ve received Reiki and Spinal Energetics. I’ve felt the transformational benefits of these practices.
Over the last decade or more, I have undertaken training in: acupuncture (British Medical Acupuncture Society), Usui Reiki to level 3 – Master level including leaching and meditation. I am currently studying for a certificate in Somatic Healing. In 2026 I will be undertaking some training in Functional (also known as Lifestyle) Medicine. Further details of my qualifications can be found elsewhere in this site.
I am proud to present myself as a Holistic Practitioner and bring all of my skills to my work. However, when you come to me for energy work, I am absolutely not treating you in the capacity of a GP. I am the sum of all my experiences and training, when I’m providing Reiki, meditation or wellbeing sessions I am not providing medical services
